On 28 February 2024, Nathalie Bauer gave a presentation on the pronominal marking of contingency in the context of positioning acts at the DGfS annual conference in Bochum (as part of the working group "Pronoun use and stancetaking"). The presentation showed the results of a study by Jens Lanwer and Nathalie Bauer on the use of "also ich" constructions in German dinner conversations.
On the basis of sequential, syntactic and prosodic analyses of a collection of 128 cases from a corpus of North German dinner conversations, it was shown that also ich-constructions are routinely used in the context of positioning to (i) indicate contrast and similarity relations between one's own and others' positioning and (ii) the contingency of one's own positioning.
